Muskegon Mental Health First Aid

Anyone can learn the skills to help someone who is experiencing a mental health crisis! Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack, Mental Health First Aid helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health related crisis.

In this 8 hour course, you learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and addiction concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations.  You will also learn where to turn for help. This class is proven to reduce the apprehension that we can sometimes feel when confronted with a mental health problem. Also, in communities where this course is being taught there is a reduction in suicides as well as the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Mental Health First Aid classes include:

  • Adult MHFA
  • Youth MHFA
  • MHFA for Law Enforcement and First Responders
  • MHFA for Veterans and Their Families
  • MHFA for Higher Education

HealthWest works with several community partners including Muskegon Community College, Public Health Muskegon County, Lakeshore Regional Partners, and local law enforcement to bring Mental Health First Aid to you. This course is currently available free of charge because of grant money provided by The Michigan Department of Community Health. Take or host a training at your place of work, worship, or school.

New classes are added periodically.  Please check back.
