Student Support Summit-Answering The Silent Cry

November 7, 2016 @ 3:00 am - 10:30 am

Trauma, trauma informed care, resilience, the first 48 hours after a traumatic event in a school, and suicide prevention with youth are just a few of the topics that will be covered at the Student Support Summit.

Join us in Montague, Michigan on November 7, 2016.  Featured speakers will be Adam Swanson from the Suicide Prevention Resource Center in Washington DC and Pat Smith who is the Coordinator of Michigan’s Violence Prevention Program.

The conference came about after we in Muskegon County saw an increase in deaths by suicide.  And most notably the deaths of young people by suicide.  We quickly learned that we were not alone in this concern.  This along with our community partner’s work with Adverse Childhood Experiences lent itself to the perfect opportunity to change our health outcomes; both physical health and mental health.

Please take a few minutes to review the conference information and register.  The cost is $25 and includes lunch as well as certification in QPR if you choose to attend that session.

Three group presentations are:

  • Building a Resilient Community Together – Julia Rupp & Lauren Meldrum from HealthWest.
  • Suicide Safer Communities – Adam Swanson, Suicide Prevention Resource Center, & Pat Smith, Violence Prevention Resource Center, Michigan DHHS.
  • The Next Steps – Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child; Coordinating Care Through Strong Partnerships, Programs, and People – Leadership teams from Pine Rest & Forest View Hospitals, Muskegon ISD, HealthWest, and Montague Public Schools

Included in the day are eight breakout sessions.  Each presented twice so that you can attend at least two.  Topics covered will include:

  • Responding to a trauma
  • Resilience
  • Coordinating Care
  • The First 48 Hours After a Trauma/Crisis
  • Suicide Prevention with Young People
  • Understanding Risky Behavior in Young People
  • Positive Behavioral Interventions
  • and more…
