For People We Serve

Peer Support Specialists are people who have personally experienced mental illness and/or a substance use disorder. They come alongside you to help you identify what is most helpful for your recovery. HealthWest has Certified Peer Support Specialists on every team.  This includes teams that serve people with a diagnosis of a mental illness, a developmental disability, or youth, in transition age, and Parent Support Partners.  Tell your Supports Coordinator if you think this might help you.

Peer Support Specialists can:

  • Meet with you one on one and offer support
  • Go with you to appointments
  • Help make lists of pros and cons for different life events
  • And so much more!

The Peer Support Specialist team exists to help people realize that they can, and probably will, get better. We can’t wait to start working with you and to share our own stories of recovery.

Eligibility criteria: At this time, Peer Support is available to anyone with a mental health diagnosis receiving services from HealthWest. To receive these services, they must be written into your PCP. There are also Peers in our lobby, available to help and support anyone who enters our doors.

If you are interested in Peer Support Specialist services, talk with your Supports Coordinator about adding this to your Person Centered Plan. We look forward to working with you!
