The Muskegon community is dedicated to helping individuals with substance use concerns.  There is no wrong door for accessing Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services. You may contact any provider directly and be scheduled for intake.

For more than 15 years, HealthWest has been providing substance use services.  All HealthWest teams serve individuals with co-occuring substance use concerns. We also have a recovery management team for individuals with a primary SUD disorder and serious persistent mental illness.  The staff on this team are specially trained and certified in assisting individuals in recovering from substance use concerns.


These services include:

  • A full assessment of the person and the substances used
  • Individual therapy to promote the recovery process
  • Group treatment based on individual needs according to the stage of change
  • Medicated Assisted Treatment for individuals receiving services at HealthWest
  • OPEN TO THE COMMUNITY: Smart Recovery Meetings. Click here for more information on this weekly group


Criteria for admission:

  • HealthWest will provide an assessment to anyone seeking treatment for a substance use concern
  • Pregnant women are prioritized for treatment. Click here if you have questions or concerns related to pregnancy and alcohol or drug use.
  • Referrals are generally made when an individual and their provider mutually decide to address substance use concerns
  • If criteria is not met for HealthWest services, a referral will be made to another community provider



Groups available:

  • Several maintenance groups are held each week to sustain recovery
  • Skill-building groups such as anger management and topical groups for male and female members only
  • Groups available for people contemplating involvement in substance use treatment
  • Relapse prevention is a major emphasis in groups
